Recently I learned: Many people enjoy to have a closer look at or even into a ‘Volcano‘ so the species ‘Homo Vulcanicus‘ was born. So I named my project VULCANICUS as it needs a closer look. The Volcano of Art is a time capsule of Digital Art from 2003 to 2013.

I am often asked: ‘Can you tell me in two sentences what is VULCANICUS?’ I think time has come to place some pieces of art made from 2003 to 2013 in a time capsule in a way that it can be explored even in 10, 20, 30, 100 years. You say: ‘that is impossible!’. It is not, it works and will work as database and viewer go to a museum and an art foundation. You just need to read more than two sentences on it. Just start with reading my article ‘The Primcurator‘ …

Then you may ask ‘what has MONDRIAN to do in the Volcano of Art?’ It is [in this case] the name of the first interactive art machine programmed by Herbert W. Franke in 1979 – coded 35 years ago on a Texas Instrument TI 99/4 homecomputer. By help of Konrad Kunze and Daniel Jung I recoded it for 3D purposes, named it HWF MONDRIAN3 – and embedded it into the Volcano of Art. So the cube-generator MONDRIAN is already there and can be played like a piano. Burning Art to Cube is alive …

The Volcano of Art itself is based on a frozen version of Opensimulator and a frozen viewer, working online [via Internet] and offline [via local LAN]. There is a sort of backup version linked to the Metropolis grid so the Volcano is very easy to visit. Keep in mind: The Volcano of Art you may visit via Metropolis is in good shape now, but not finished. It will be complete in May 2014. All pictures you see published in this blog are raw screenshots out of the Volcano. You shall be able to experience the Volcano rather in the same high quality when you visit it via the Metropolis grid.
